Highway 45 is big project for summer road construction

This year the following CSAH roads will be moved to County Road designation: 26, 30, 36, 42, 47 and all or parts of the following County Roads to CSAH designation: 142, 227, 263, 461, 437, 457. These roads will be renamed when approved by the state.

County Highway Engineer Karin Grandia explained that these roads will be renumbered and, depending on whether there is a separate road name, addresses will change. Residents will be notified when this happens and both designations will be posted for a year. Newly designated CSAH roads will be in the 90s and county roads in the 600s.

The change in classifications did allow an additional $500,000 to be directed toward gravel purchases for 2019 in addition to the budgeted amount.

The largest project slated is the final segment of reconstruction of CSAH 45 between trunk Highways 38 and 7 north of Marcell. The 15 mile project started in 2003 and the final 4.5 mile segment is estimated to cost $2.5 million and possibly extend into 2020.

A culvert is scheduled to be replaced at Bridge 7070 on County Road 340 this year, but these are the only two projects in North Itasca Electrics service territory.

Public comments will be accepted at the Transportation Department until March 23. The plan is available online at www.co.itasca.mn.us/219/Transportation.
