Donít get me wrong, I donít have a problem with solar or any renewable source of energy. I absolutely see the value and the direction our industry is heading. The discussion we had was about the cost to scale of solar projects.
Depending on where you get your system, the most expensive solar systems out there can be a personal solar system. The most economical system is large scale utility solar, not usually found in Northern Minnesota. Great River Energy purchases a significant amount of solar and renewables on our behalf. You will see information about the Wellspring program in the WATTS News this month. If you are looking for a renewable energy option, please give us a call, we would be happy to help.
I was looking over the GRE power bill for December and I was surprised how different December 2017 was from December 2018. It was bitterly cold in 2017! Our power bill was almost 25 percent less in 2018 vs 2017. This absolutely shows how much weather can affect our system. Thankfully we have off peak rates that are competitive with delivered fuels and a reliable system to deliver this power. Looking at the forecast weíre in for a stretch of bitterly cold temps for the last two weeks in January. Button down the hatches and get ready for the blast of Minnesota Winter.
Our board of directors recently had several discussions about what to do in District 8. The plan was to fill the vacancy on the board for the 6 months roughly before June. We conducted a district meeting in Marcell to discuss options and talk to Consumer-Owners.
It was decided by our board the most democratic way to handle the situation is to let the district decide whom they would like on the board. We will wait until June, allowing the voting membership to make the decision. This prevents anyone from having perceived special treatment by the directors. We had interest from four highly qualified individuals from District 8; I look forward to the election in June.
