Over the CEO’s Desk: Capital Credit Retirement

Each year since 1984 your Board of Directors has authorized a payout or retirement of capital credits back to the Members based on a 20 year rotation of ownership. Some years back then were good years financially and others were not so good depending on costs the cooperative encountered (storms, power costs, etc.) to keep the lines up and the power flowing. From 1984 through 2008 we’ve returned $3,008,417.00 of equity back to the Members.

Member recognition for energy efficiency

North Itasca Electric members can be proud of themselves for a program well done. North Itasca was selected out of 100 cooperatives for our “CFL for Food” program to be used in a video/interview Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) is producing to help other generation and transmission cooperatives like Great River Energy (GRE) and distribution cooperatives like North Itasca Electric in developing energy efficiency programs within their service territories.

Santa’s Mitten Maids at work 

Community volunteers, also known as Santa’s Mitten Maids, shop each Christmas for children who may otherwise not have a gift, wrap gifts and deliver the packages. Each Christmas package has a hat, a pair of mittens, an age appropriate book, a nice present and school supplies. The groups try to make sure that all children at home on Christmas are included until they graduate from high school or leave the home.

December 2009 Calendar of Events 

1 Snowmobile trails open, depending on weather
1 Northwoods Quilters have their Christmas party hosted by members at Colony Square in Grand Rapids. Potluck starts at 10 a.m.
3-4 North Itasca Electric Co-op Christmas Open House and Sale, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. until Santa leaves on Friday.
3 "Story Telling Evening" starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Marcell Town Hall, All ages are welcome, coffee and treats are served.
3 Holiday Bake and Craft Sale, Bigfork Valley Villa and Communities, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
3 The Holiday Gift Show at the Edge Gallery runs through Dec. 12. Gallery is open 1-4 p.m. every Thurs., Fri., Sat.
