RoundUp® Awards

Each month, many of North Itasca Electric Cooperative members “round up” their bills to the next dollar with the change donated to worthwhile area projects. It’s just a few cents, but multiplied many times it can add up to many dollars.

This April, the independent Trust Board met to award $10,670 in grants to area organizations. The list of grants made is on the continuing page.

Grants ranged from $75 to $500, and represented area needs from a new town hall furnace to scholarships and programs for students and youth. It is a diverse list, supporting many different types of projects.

Roxanne's Sales Talk

by Roxanne Prather, Sales Assistant

I receive a few calls every month where people are seeing charges on their phone bills they did not make. Beware of fraudulent computer-generated phone charges. Consumers who downloaded programs from a web site on the internet to view pictures later received huge phone bills for international calls they never made. Some viewer programs are designed to disconnect their computers from their regular Internet service provider and reconnect to the Internet through a phone number in Moldova, formerly part of the Soviet Union. Never download programs from web sites unless you know and trust the site.

Power Outages

Electricity is an important part of our lives. We strive to maintain power and minimize the length of time anyone has to be without power. By being prepared and informed, you can help us restore your power as quickly as practical.

When an Outage Occurs:

  • Check the fuses and circuit breakers in your home and on the meter pole to determine if the loss of power was caused by your system. The problem may be with your wiring and may require the services of an electrician.
  • Call your neighbors to determine if they have electricity. This helps pinpoint the extent of the outage.
  • If the cause of the outage is not in your wiring, please call 218-743-3131 or 800-762-4048. The following information will be helpful:
    • Name
    • Account Number
    • Location Number
    • Telephone Number
    • Any other information that may help us locate the cause of the outage (for example, a downed tree, lightning strike, branch across a wire, etc.).
