North Itasca Electric at national convention
by Sally Sedgwick
You step off the plane to participate in an annual meeting. But it isn’t a meeting of just one organization. You’ve stepped into a convention that gathers four groups and 9,000 people together to review and celebrate the infrastructure of rural America.
It’s the annual meeting of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, and in February board member Terry Schmitz and CEO Jeff Ortman traveled to Anaheim, California to represent North Itasca Electric Cooperative at the conference.
Along with the NRECA, the conference also was the annual gathering of the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, distributor of WildBlue and DIRECT TV; the Cooperative Finance Corporation which provides financial services to cooperatives; and Touchstone Energy, which is the branding group for electricity provided by rural co-ops.

Spring Fling
by Sally Sedgwick

This year the Itasca County Master Gardeners are welcoming the season with a Spring Fling; a series of workshops looking forward to productive summer gardening. Mary Evenhouse of Marcell is the chair for the event which will be on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Grand Rapids High School.
