Roxanne’s Sales Talk
... continued

The water enters through the base of the machine. Pumps force the water at high temperatures into rotating arms containing spray jets. The force of the water rotates the arms and enables the water and detergent to reach everything in the load. After the load is done washing and rinsing. Rinse aid is used to improve drying and reduces water spots and filming. Most dishwashers have the option of drying with heat or without. If heat is selected then the elements in the bottom of the machine heat and this dries your dishes.

There is no one kind of soap that works the best; it is more a matter of preference. You can choose from powder, liquid or gel. Most people find tablets very convenient, but powder is generally more economical and liquids are less abrasive on more delicate items.

The dishwasher is a cleaner; therefore most people don’t think about it, but it also needs to be cleaned too. Dishwashers should be cleaned about once a month so you don’t end up with build up in the machine. There are special cleaners that you use while the machine is empty to get rid of any grease lime and scale that builds up inside the machine.

When loading your dishwasher make sure that the dishes you are putting in are dishwasher safe. Scrape off as much food as you can and place the bigger, dirtier items on the bottom rack with cups, glasses and less dirty items on the top rack. Make sure they are not touching. Always put cutlery in the basket with handles down.

If you end up with cloudy glasses soak them in vinegar for 5 minutes to determine the cause. If, after soaking, the glass is clear then it was caused by hard water. If the cloudiness is not gone after soaking then it is permanent condition known as etching, to prevent this use less detergent and stop pre-washing. If there is no soil, the detergent tends to foam up and this causes “etching.”

To remove hard water spots from glasses, load clean dishes in normal manner but do not load any metal utensils or silverware and do not add detergent. Select the normal wash cycle, close and latch the door. Turn the dishwasher to start and allow the dishwasher to run until it starts the second water fill (approx. 10 minutes), unlatch and open the door and pour in 2 cups of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Close and latch the door and allow the cycle to finish. If these conditions continue you should consider a water softener. It is always best to follow the manufacturer’s advice for each brand or model. A lot of dishwashers are Energy Star rated and use a lot less water than you use when washing by hand.
