White Oak Classic
by Sally Sedgwick
The White Oak Classic for 2007 has been cancelled due to weather conditions. See the news release for more information.
It’s the moment right before “Start your engines!” It’s the time just after the Star Spangled Banner and just before the first pitch is thrown. It’s the coin in the air in the center of the field.
It’s the time when all the future outcomes could still happen and anticipation sizzles in the air.
That moment will be shared by spectators and teams in Northome just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13. That’s when the 10-dog engines of the White Oak Classic sled dog race will be in harness waiting for the starter’s signal.

Eagleview looks at
charter school status
What’s best for the children of Eagleview Elementary, and for the rest of Independent School District 318? That was the question at the forefront of the December 18th ISD 318 School Board Workshop, and while still unsettled, the Board and members of the Eagleview Community Foundation seem to be headed toward an answer. All of the school’s teachers, with the support of parents and Foundation members, have petitioned the Board to allow Eagleview to convert to charter school status.

Why consider energy conservation!
by Gerald Loney,
Load Management Specialist, NIECI
To most people, it may seem strange for electric utilities to ask customers to reduce the amount of energy they are using. These prices at times are more than what the utility charges the consumer.
The purpose of this article is to give people a better understanding of various conditions that change the energy market and why conservation is so important.

Roxanne's Sales Talk
by Roxanne Prather Sales Assistant
Not only are dishwashers one of women’s best time saving devices, they also get your dishes cleaner and are more hygienic then if you washed them by hand. Most dishwashers work better if you have a water softener but they can be used without one unless you have extreme hard water. Dishwashers work by taking in hot water that should be at least 120 F (68 C) to sanitize, if the water temperature is lower your cycle will be delayed while the dishwasher heats the water to the temperature needed. Water temperatures vary depending on the cycles. Your water pressure should be between 20 and 120 psi.

Buy a Meter - Go the Distance
by Sally Sedgwick
There is a field in back of Bigfork School that is one place where the school’s track and field team practices. It has enough space for discus, shot put, triple jump, sprints and hurdles. But each year it is a challenge to have that space safe and dry.
“Basically, it’s a swamp,” said junior baseball player Jesse Powell. In fact, when the field is raked out for practice to begin in the spring, pieces of glass and plastic as well as weeds and rocks may be found.
