Over the Ceo's Desk: Important Notices
... continued

Squaw Lake/Max area:

The Cooperative provides translated television signals in the Squaw Lake/Max area through EZ-TV on channels 60 and 62. We were recently notified that we would be losing the channel 60 frequency to a higher priority provider which will use the frequency for transmitting broadband signals for administration of utility, safety and other remote data recovery. We do not have the exact timing for when the signal will be lost but we suspect it will be in late December or early January of 2007. Because Great River Energy will be one of the primary users of the new frequency, they have offered to pay the cost associated with moving the channel 60 frequency to a frequency below channel 51. However, it may take some time to secure the new frequency from the FCC. There may be a short time in late December or January when neither channel 62 or the new frequency will be on the air. When we find out the dates and the new frequency we will let you know.

Rates:

While our final numbers are not in for the 2007 budget it appears that we will be able to meet our obligations with only a minor adjustment to our current rates, and we are sharpening our pencils to see if we can dig up a few more dollars to eliminate the need for any adjustment at all. So while most utilities are going up 5- 10% in 2007 and the costs of operations will increase, we’re doing our best to bring you reliable service at a reasonable cost. The greatest unknown at this time is whether or not our power supplier will need to pass on additional costs to us in the form of a Purchase Power Cost Adjustment (PPCA). If this happens, we may need to pass those additional costs on to you in the form of our own PCA. Your board will examine the budget in December but may wait till January to approve the final numbers. Hopefully we’ll have some good news for you!

Merry Christmas to all!

With so many things to be thankful for this Holiday Season please consider joining us for our Annual Christmas Open House on Thursday and Friday, December 7th and 8th. Coffee, rolls and fellowship will be served all day with sleigh rides starting at 6:00 p.m. and Santa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. It’s always wonderful to see the sparkle in a child’s eyes when they let Santa know their secret wish for Christmas!

On behalf of the Employees, Staff and Board of Directors and myself, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year!
