The Township of Marcell will celebrate 100 years on Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23 with storytelling, games, food, music, a parade and a pancake breakfast.
On Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. the recent streetscape on Highway 38 will be dedicated in a ceremony at the Marcell Family Center followed by a noon potluck picnic at the Marcell Town Hall and kids’ games in the park.
Interested in Marcell’s colorful history? Storytelling will take place about 1 p.m. on Saturday at the MFC, and the centennial committee hopes to have the stories recorded for the Itasca County Historical Society. The history museum at the home of Charles and Ena Eckert will also be open both days. The museum is located just north of the town at 49886 Highway 38.
At 3 p.m. the parade will begin near the MFC and go south past the park to Richie’s. Just after the parade 4 p.m. Richie’s parking lot will be the setting for a musical performance by the Original Pretenders with fifties/sixties country, rock and roll, and listening music.
Later that evening Richie’s will host a dance.
On Sunday a pancake breakfast (freewill offering) will be served at the Marcell Family Center from 9 a.m. to about noon. During the morning there will be horseshoes at Richie’s and after the breakfast bingo will start about 1 p.m. at the MFC.
