Selling lumber for northwoods homes
by Sally Sedgwick
“When Ginny and Ken Oja brought their young family north from the Cities, they visited family in Babbitt and then drove east. The landscape looked pretty remote to the 3rd, 5th and 8th graders riding in the car, recalled Ginny.
But the family and the business they had purchased in Marcell thrived over the next 16 years.

Meet your cooperative staff: Chris Larson
When Chris Larson and his wife Tammy saw the ad for a job opening for a warehouseman at North Itasca Electric, they realized it could be a perfect match.
Although they lived in the Red Wing area where Chris was raised, they both had connections to the northwoods. Chris had been visiting the Bigfork area since his grandfather had purchased property there in 1975, and Tammy was originally from Two Harbors.

Over the CEO’s Desk
by Jeff Ortman,
Chief Executive Officer
Back in June and July of this year the WATTS NEWS featured articles dealing with your Cooperative’s need for a rate adjustment. We made comparisons on the cost of 1,000 KWhs and the fact that the rates now are lower than they were 20 years ago. At the Annual Meeting I reported that I thought the increase would be in the neighborhood of 12% primarily to recover our costs for purchased power. The organization oversees distribution of the cooperative members’ choices to “round up” their monthly billings to the next whole dollar, donating the cents to area charitable projects.

by Roxanne Prather, Sales Assistant
If you’re tired of stressing over finding the right long distance company, you are not alone! There is a lot to consider when choosing a long distance company...or is there? This depends on what company you decide to go with in most cases.
First of all you need to take a look at your calling patterns. When do I call the most? During the day or evenings and weekends, do I make a lot of international calls and if so what is the rate for those calls? If the plan I choose is unlimited evenings & weekend calling for, say, $24.00 a month, I would also want to know what it is going to cost me per minute for the calls I need to make during the day.
