Key to the Edge Center

“Congratulations on this...this is astounding!” said David Marty, executive director of the Reif Center in Grand Rapids.

Marty was speaking at the Grand Opening celebration for the Edge Center in Bigfork on Sept. 18. It was a stage that had already seen performances of Kevin Kling and Monroe Crossing, and would feel the dance steps of the 40 plus member cast of The Music Man later that afternoon.

New principals join schools

Avenson comes to Northome

When Shannon Avenson came to Northome School as principal, she found “a wonderful group of kids.”

And recently when the school district held a strategic planning session, she was also impressed with the positive participation of parents and the community.

Meet your cooperative staff: Jerry Loney

You could say he talks to Turtles.

As load management specialist at North Itasca Electric, Jerry Loney is the person at the other end of the Turtle system that automates meter reading for the cooperative customers. The Turtles, shown active by the small red light on customer meters, transmit data on electrical usage in small packets over the electric lines back to the substations and then by phone line to the North Itasca Electric offices.

'Lunch Buddies' at Bigfork

Ever think it might be worthwhile to mentor a child, but not sure what that means or what kind of time commitment is involved?

There’s a chance this year to see if mentoring is for you.

Bridges Kinship Mentoring, an Itasca County organization affiliated with the regional Kinship organization, is hosting a Lunch Buddies program this year in Bigfork. It’s the third year of the program in the county; previously it has been at Murphy and Riverview schools, and this year will be at Murphy and Bigfork.

For those of you who have not heard, North Itasca Electric Co-op. offers long distance service!

Our service is called North Itasca Cooperative Enterprises or ( N.I.C.E.) for short. We offer a great rate at 8.9 cents a minute if you are calling within the state and 7.9 cents a minute if you are calling outside the state. There is no monthly fee so if you don’t make any calls you will not receive a bill!
