50th anniversary of the Stampede

The end of July will be a big, big weekend in Effie.
It’s the 50th annual North Star Stampede, organized each year since 1956 by Howard Pitzen and his family on the rodeo grounds at the North Star ranch just two miles north of Effie.
It’s an open rodeo, anyone can compete. It’s the largest open rodeo in Minnesota, and it is, Pitzen believes, the only one in the nation that has been produced in the same spot for 50 years under one ownership.

Shirley Behrens sculptures
featured at Edge Center Gallery
“Shirley: Welding Politics and Form” will be the exhibit in the Edge Gallery from June 30-July 30.
Shirley Behrens was a sculptor for more than 20 years in the Twin Cities where she exhibited in many juried and regional outdoor shows from 1960 through the 1980s. Her welded metal pieces were installed in public buildings and private collections.
