Introduction to the Energy Management Programs

The purpose of this section of the website is to help North Itasca Electric cooperative member-Owners understand all the programs and services available to them.

These programs are designed to keep the cost of energy at the lowest possible rates and, at the same time, provide reliable services to all cooperative members.

State and Federal mandates require that all electric suppliers promote energy efficiency programs and North Itasca Electric does just that through load management programs, rebates and incentives. Load Management programs reduce the need for producing or purchasing additional power at higher rates, keeping the cost each member as low as possible. This reduction in energy also reduces the amount of harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere, thus protecting our environment. This is a goal we all should work toward and it is the right thing to do.

Renewable energy sources are being developed everywhere we look. These resources do not come without a price. Wind, solar, biomass, etcetera are all alternative sources to produce energy other than the coal we have relied upon for so many years. Energy from renewable generation is more expensive and will affect the rates we pay in the future.

Electricity is reliable, 100% efficient, keeps our homes free from carbon monoxide, and is less expensive to heat our homes and domestic water when on a load management program.

Design information and calculations in this website only provide rough estimates of heat losses and heat gains for building structures. Every structure has its own characteristics varying with the number and type of doors and windows, type and amount of insulation; even the direction the structure faces in reference to the sun has a bearing. It is best to consult a professional when designing a heating or cooling system for your structure. Many contractors along with North Itasca Electric can do this for you.
